Live Boer goats in UK are well-known for their robust build, featuring a stocky body, deep chest, and long broad rump. They have a straight back, strong legs, a short glossy coat, and loose skin. Their distinctive appearance includes a slightly curved (Roman) nose, wide nostrils, large brown eyes, broad pendulous ears, and mid-length round dark horns that sweep gradually back and out.

Breeding Live Boer Goats

Breeding Boer goats in Cape Town and other regions of South Africa is not restricted to a specific season. However, there is an estrus peak in the fall and a trough in midsummer in the Southern Hemisphere, allowing for kidding every 7–8 months. Female Boer goats reach puberty by six months, but breeding them at this age can disrupt their growth and future performance. It is recommended that females reach two-thirds of the herd’s average body mass before mating. After the first freshening, they typically give birth to twins and produce ample milk. One buck can service up to forty does.

Coloring

Boer goats generally have a red-brown head and a white body, though they can sometimes be all white, all brown, or paint (color spotted). The coloration is purposeful: pigmented hairless areas such as eyelids, mouth, and under the tail protect against sunburn, while the white body makes them easily visible at range.
